Just Hatched!

Sorry to keep everyone in suspense about those eggs we had ready to hatch last weekend.  (Baskets, taxes, blah, blah, blah = busy week here).
We ended up with 13 chicks... not too bad and it was a learning experience in many ways.  I think it was neat for the kids to get to see them grow in the shells when we candled them and then to watch them hatch.

I will probably take a lot of pictures of them while they are cute and little and fluffy.  =)

But, watch these two- I was just blindly snapping pictures, holding the camera down in the pen, but when I pulled them off of the memory card seemed like a little miniature rooster-fight had been going on!

The lighter-colored one is TOTALLY giving the other one a dirty look!

So funny!
OK, now for the slightly graphic part.  I snapped pitcutes like crazy when we got to watch the last two hatch out Monday evening.  I had to photograph through the plastic window of the incubator, so these are the best ones.  ***Warning- it is a little icky!***

The little wing came out first on this one!

It went too far towards the edge, so I couldn't get a good pic through the little window.
Pretty soon afterwards, the last one started to hatch, too!

Look at the older sibling helping out! Cute!! (OK, almost, they are still kinda' slimy and gross at this point.)
WAAAAAY cuter when they are all fluffed out.  Expect more pictures in the near future.  I just love to watch these cute little things!

I am linking up at StudioJRU - head on over there to see what everyone else is working on!

Lindsay, that's just amazing! Thank you for sharing with us. I can imagine that the entire experience was so educational for your children.

Will you be raising these for eggs or meat? I knew people who canned chicken...sounds interesting, but I've never done it.

Hi Lindsay, I loved seeing the hatching pics, and those two that were fighting was so funny, I wonder if you were right and they were roosters.

Thanks for the pics!
